Cross-country state qualifiers race for the champion title
14 cross-country runners have qualified to run in the 2020 GHSA Cross-Country State Championships. This will be their final race and will wrap up the team’s 2020 season. The meet will be held Friday, November 6th in Carrollton, Georgia. There will be athletes from 32 different high schools competing to win a state champion title.
Usually, only a select few runners make it to State, but this year the Chiefs have stepped it up. Senior Madison Ehmig has been on varsity since her freshman year and will be competing at the state meet on Friday.
“We don’t normally have this many runners from Sequoyah at state, but this year there are 7 boys and 7 girls competing,” Ehmig said.
The runners came together Thursday night to prepare for the race with a team meal. The athletes enjoyed a pasta dinner and utilized carbs to energize for their upcoming race.
“I really enjoy having pasta dinners with the team, and I feel like fueling up on carbs is a good method of preparation the night before a race,” Ehmig said.
The state meet on November 6th gives the Chiefs the potential to bring home a state title, and with the large number of Sequoyah runners competing, these chances are higher than usual.
